SS20:5 Beyond Basics Spinning
Take your spinning skills to the next level
To take your spinning and fibre preparation skills to the next level learn to spin and stabilise singles yarn and to chain ply, hand card fibre, spin long-draw and finish to create a warm, soft woollen yarn. Create mini-skeins in three shades of grey, and spin alpaca fibre. Wheel mechanics will be discussed each week.
Classes will run for on two Saturdays with a gap of three weeks in between classes from 9 am until 3:30pm on March 14 and April 4, 2020. There will be lots of homework to keep you practicing in the gap between lessons!
Skill Level: Must be able to spin a 2-ply yarn.
Equipment: Spinning wheel, bobbins, lazy kate.
Materials: Fibre kit provided for a $15 fee
- fibre preparation skills for wool and alpaca fibre, spinning woollen yarn, creating gradients (three shades of grey)
- how to spin long-draw and chain ply
- methods of finishing singles and woollen yarn
- small-group tuition
- knowledge, skills and supervised spinning practice
- fibre kit (Fee payable to tutor at first lesson)
- spinning wheel (Please ensure it is in working order, or contact the Guild for hiring a wheel)
- bobbins and lazy kate
- fee for Fibre Kit ( approximately $15)

To assist in the management of courses, a cancellation process is essential.

HWS Guild NSW reserves the right to cancel a workshop if the minimum enrolment is not reached within one week of the course commencing.
If a workshop is cancelled, participants will be offered places in another workshop or a full refund if preferred.

Materials: Most courses have requirement lists and a materials fee payable to your tutor in class. Your class requirements list will be forwarded to you after booking.
Locations: Most courses will be held in the Guild Rooms above the hall, behind St Paul’s Anglican Church, 205 Burwood Rd, Burwood. Please note that access to the rooms is via a stairway. Some courses will be held at other locations in Epping. Please check the course description for venue details.
Times: Participants should arrive 30 minutes prior to class commencing. The venue must be cleaned up within 30 minutes of class finishing.
Network Groups: For each course, one member may pay at the member’s rate on confirmation of their financial status by their group and its approval.
Knitters Guild NSW: We have a reciprocal arrangement with the Knitters Guild whereby their members may enrol at members’ prices and vice versa.
